Flexterra® Mixing and Application Instructions
Introduced in 2004, Flexterra® Flexible Growth Medium continues to rapidly set a new standard for erosion control and vegetation establishment on slopes. Engineered using thermally-refined wood fibres, crimped man-made fibres and performance-enhancing additives, it forms an intimate bond with the soil, delivering immediate and unprecedented erosion protection and vegetation establishment.
To ensure maximum effectiveness, properly mixing the Flexterra® using the correct Application Rates, Loading Procedures and Loading Charts is very important. The Loading Chart includes step-by-step instructions and images that help determine what is a proper application and what is an improper application. It also includes a detailed chart to help you determine the proper mix and measurements depending on the needs of your site.
With Flexterra®, there’s no need to smooth grade slopes prior to installation, however, cat-tracking perpendicular to the slope does reduce the potential for erosion. Cat-tracking will also help to create pockets which capture moisture and hold seeds in place.
Before mixing, ensure your hydraulic seeding equipment is clean. Then, fill one-third of the tank with water. Turn the pump on to purge and pre-wet the lines for 15 seconds. Then, be sure to turn the pump off before adding the materials. Next, turn the Agitator on and begin adding the seed and other low-density materials. When those materials are in, continue filling the tank with water and begin loading Flexterra®.
If you’re using a smaller machine, you’ll need to break up the Flexterra® before adding it to the water. When using a large Hydroseeding machine (hydroseeder), Flexterra® can be loaded in bigger chunks. Once you’ve added the appropriate number of Flexterra® bales, add any other additional fertilizers and top it off with water. Continue mixing until all the Flexterra® is fully dispersed – this can take up to 10 minutes or longer, depending on the temperature you’re working in. Once you’ve achieved a moist, thick slurry, shut off the recirculation valve on your hydroseeder and slow the Agitator speed to keep the material in suspension. Now, you are ready to apply Flexterra® Flexible Growth Medium.
Flexterra® Application Instructions
Introduced in 2004, Flexterra® Flexible Growth Medium continues to rapidly set a new standard for erosion control and vegetation establishment on slopes. Engineered using thermally-refined wood fibres, crimped man-made fibres and performance-enhancing additives, it forms an intimate bond with the soil, delivering immediate and unprecedented erosion protection and vegetation establishment.
To ensure maximum effectiveness, please check the Application Rates, Loading Procedures and Loading Charts. This helps achieve the proper mix. We also recommend measuring and marking your site prior to applying Flexterra®. To enhance germination even futher, you may want to first mix and apply a light slurry of seed and Flexterra®. A small amount of Flexterra® helps to protect the seed and allows the applicator to visually determine where the seed has been placed. After the light slurry has been applied, you can then apply the remainder of the Flexterra®. After mixing and achieving a moist, thick slurry, shut off the recirculation valve on your Hydroseeder and slow the Agitator speed.
In addition to having the right mix of product, it is also important to pick the appropriate nozzle. Different machines all have different capabilities and different projects will require different nozzles. This varies from fan spray nozzles to long-range nozzles designed for spraying hard to reach places. To achieve 100% coverage you’ll need to apply it from all directions – for slopes, this means applying it from the top and from the bottom. When applied correctly, Flexterra® forms an intimate bond with the soil, delivering immediate and unprecedented erosion protection and rapid vegetation establishment.
Once your application is complete, wash out the inside of the tank. Be sure to pump out the water with the Agitator off. In order to prevent clogging, it is important to not let any material sit in the tank for extended periods of time.
